Amy Tate
Gilchrist
d. Jul 2, 2026
Camden
Celebrating a life beautifully lived, we remember Amy Tate Gilchrist—a loving mother whose kindness, generous spirit, and unwavering love touched the hearts of everyone fortunate enough to know her. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, joy, and inspiration that will continue to live on in the lives she touched and in the hearts of those who loved her.
Amy graduated from Lincoln High School. After graduation, she traveled to Cleveland, Ohio, where she met the love of her life, Samuel Gilchrist. They were married and welcomed two children before later moving to New York, where they were blessed with two more daughters.
Eventually, Amy returned to her home state of Arkansas with her girls to be closer to family. She worked as a dedicated housekeeper for several families, earning their trust and appreciation through her strong work ethic and caring nature.
Amy faithfully served the Lord at Greater St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church. She joined under the leadership of Dr. I. R. Dunn and remained a devoted member through the pastorates of Dr. George E. Smith and Pastor Jeffrey C. Franklin. For more than 30 years, she served faithfully on the Usher Board and was also an active member of the City-Wide Usher Union. She began her missionary service with the Eva Russ Missionary Circle and later became a dedicated member of the Ada B. Rogers Missionary Circle, where she remained active and committed.
Amy was a woman with a generous heart who found joy in giving to others. She took pride in always looking her best, never without her makeup and favorite jewelry. She loved shopping at Cato and enjoyed dining at Woods Place. Most of all, Amy never met a stranger. Her warm smile, welcoming spirit, and genuine kindness made everyone she encountered feel like family.
Amy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Samuel Gilchrist; her parents, Gentry and Gertrude Tate; and her siblings, Charlie Ray Goza, Lila Bell, Elloyd "Jab" Tate, Hudie Tate, Lee Tate, and Willie "Bubba" Tate; and her daughter, Michelle Gilchrist Armstrong.
She leaves to cherish her precious memory her loving daughters, Beverly Gulley, Kassandra Gilchrist, and Kim Gilchrist, all of Camden, Arkansas. She also leaves seven cherished grandchildren: Dezmone Williams; Keewan Kelly of Little Rock, Arkansas; Keenan Armstrong, Asia Hill, Emon Gilchrist, and Eric Bigby Jr., all of Camden, Arkansas; and Deon Gilchrist (Destiny) of El Dorado, Arkansas.
Amy's legacy continues through her great-granddaughter, Nevaeh Jackson of Camden, Arkansas; her two bonus great-granddaughters, Iyla Hill and Meka Stevens of Arkadelphia, Arkansas; and one great-grandson who is expected to arrive soon.
She also leaves two loving sisters: Vera Tate (Ellis) Beavers of Cleveland, Ohio and Inez Tate McRae of Camden, Arkansas; a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends, including her special neighbor and cherished friend, Diane Daugherty, along with all whose lives were blessed by knowing her.
