Obituary

Bernest Gulley born in Camden, Arkansas on September 7, 1948, to Otis and Nellie Gulley, Bernest Gulley was a ball full of high energy from birth. Sitting still in one place for long was simply not his personality. During lights out at bedtime, he'd be under the covers still playing with toys.

Raised in a Christian home, Bernest accepted Christ at a young age at St. James A.M.E. in Camden, AR. His past times growing up included playing football and singing bass in the choir. One Saturday morning Bernest, his twin brother, and a friend travelled to Pine Bluff A M & N to audition for the choir director. He was so impressed with them that they were offered scholarships and asked to sing in front of the entire choir before receiving a standing ovation. This marked the beginning of a 4-year journey as a member of the Vesper Choir travelling the country singing to packed crowds. He graduated from college in 1970 with a degree in Industrial Management and moved to California with his family. With hard work and determination, he worked in the school district and started his own business offering cleaning and janitorial services to office buildings and other businesses.

Later returning to his roots in Camden, he continued his entrepreneurial spirit and operated a Bar-B-Que restaurant and was a committed worker. One of his favorite past-times was cooking. He cooked for family gatherings, deer camps, class reunions and church functions. He worshipped at Zion Hill Baptist Church he was very active in its outreach ministry working closely with Bishop Chester Thompson singing in the choir, driving the van, travelling and any other task he was asked to do.

He had a free spirit, quick-wit, and hearty laugh that his family will miss.

Preceding him to glory are his parents, sister lethal Elliott, brothers Raymond Gulley and Charles Gulley and great-grandchild Leilani.

He leaves to celebrate his Home-going his daughter Akilah Gulley, sons Keith (Yvette) Gulley and Vernon Bass, grandchildren Shakira, Deltonio, Zecariah, Camron, Keaton, Autumn, Jordan, Justin and Jace, great-grandchildren Legend, Kayden, K'nari and Kyrin, twin brother Earnest Gulley, brother John Harold Gulley and sisters M. Virginia Nelson, Jessie M. Robinson, Jacquelyn Pace and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family.
