Obituary

Don Harold Sanders transitioned peacefully from his earthly life on December 17, 2025, at the South Arkansas Regional Hospital in El Dorado, Arkansas. His legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. He was 81 years old.

Don Harold Sanders was born on August 28, 1944, in Camden, Arkansas. He was the son of the late Elijah Fairfield Sr. and the late Ruth Lee Lewis Sanders. His grandparents were Will and Martha Sanders, and Willie and Mary Lee Lewis. Don was surrounded by a loving family throughout his life, and the values instilled in him by his parents and grandparents guided him in all his endeavors.

Don was admired for his kindness, grace, compassion, and his appreciation of beauty—qualities that defined his character throughout his life. He was blessed with a beautiful singing voice and was named Song Leader for the state of Arkansas during his high school years. He also had a deep love for dance and music, earning the affectionate nickname 'Disco Don' among those closest to him.

From an early age, Don accepted Christ and became a devoted member of the Macedonia African Methodist Church. His commitment to his faith was evident in his service to the church in multiple roles, including trustee, steward, Church School Superintendent, and choir member. Don's dedication to his church community reflected his strong moral character and deep spiritual convictions.

Don attended Lafayette High School and graduated as part of the Class of 1962. He continued his education at Shorter College in North Little Rock. After his studies, Don moved to Los Angeles, California, where he worked for the Mattel Corporation. In 1972, he returned to Camden, Arkansas, and began working at Southern Arkansas University Tech as a maintenance technician, a position he held until his retirement.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Elijah Fairfield Sanders Sr. and Ruth Lee Lewis Sanders; his sister, Martha Lee Sanders Smith; and his brothers, Smead Tatum, Allen James Sanders, and Elijah Fairfield Sanders Jr.

Don leaves behind his brothers: William Sanders of Los Angeles, California, and Jesse Sanders and Lowell Sanders, both of Camden, Arkansas. He is also remembered by numerous loving nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and his church family, all of whom honor and cherish his memory.
