Yvonne G.
Williams
Nov 27, 1934 — Feb 7, 2025
The Long Road Home
Yvonne G. Williams, the beloved firstborn of eight children, was a woman of remarkable gifts and talents. She had a beautiful singing voice, played the piano, and was an outstanding player for the Women's Cobra basketball team at Carver High School.
Fearless and determined, Yvonne ventured out into the world to build a life for herself, guided by strong motivation and unwavering dedication to her beliefs.
Her faith in Christ was the cornerstone of her life. She didn't just attend church—she lived her faith daily. As the longtime President of the Usher Board and a lead singer in the choir, she served with joy and devotion. She ensured that her daughter, Cheryl, and grandchildren, Shauntory, Angel, and Cammie, were baptized and remained active in the church. Known for her generosity, Yvonne made Homecoming celebrations unforgettable with the incredible meals she served from her beloved Astro Van—her famous dressing, fried chicken, potato salad, English peas, and hot water cornbread were legendary. Though baking wasn't her forte, she made sure no gathering was without a delicious rum cake from Camden Bakery.
Yvonne cherished time with her family. She found joy in shopping, traveling, and dining out, always looking forward to the desserts that completed every meal.
Later in life, she married Jasper Williams. Though they had no children together, Yvonne embraced the role of stepmother and grandmother to Jasper's family with love and kindness.
She dedicated many years of service to General Dynamics before retiring, but even then, her strong work ethic kept her active in various jobs until her health declined.
Yvonne was preceded in death by her husband, Jasper Williams; her parents, Onie and Elnora Glover; and her brothers, Edward James Glover, Thelton Glover, and Horis Glover.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and faith, survived by her daughter, Cheryl McCullough (Mark); grandson, Shauntory Watson (Melanie); granddaughters, Angel McKoy (Coleman) and Cammie Dumas; 14 great-grandchildren: Tyrus, Zachary, Xavier, Harmoni, Zaevion, Deja, Torie, Jaden, Aniyah, Gracy, Aspen, Kai, Shauntory Jr., and Sebastian; and three great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Ellena Wesson, Dolly Glover, Almarene Glover, and Eva Glover, as well as a host of cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.
Yvonne's warmth, generosity, and unwavering faith will be deeply missed but forever remembered by those who loved her.
